I first had homemade granola on a yoga retreat near Toulouse in France. Toulouse is a great destination for a city break by the way. However if you are a vegetarian, beware the non meat options when visiting restaurants are limited. After a week of doing yoga and eating organic vegetarian food I felt fantastic. I made my own granola at home and have never turned back.
This Luxurious homemade granola beats any cereal you can buy. Breakfast is such an important meal and starting the day with my healthy and nutritious granola will really keep you going. It’s great to eat after a workout or run as it’s packed with essential fats and protein.
This is probably one of the only recipes on my blog which doesn’t include any chillies! It does include cinnamon which is a spice though. I have also taught my mum how to make this homemade granola, she has finally learnt a recipe from me!
The ingredients which makes this granola so luxurious are the walnuts, hazelnuts, chai seeds, dates and coconut. Considering there is no sugar in this recipe, it tastes perfectly sweet.
I have my granola for breakfast after a run or walk with my dog Holly. I eat my granola with fresh fruit, usually apple, kiwi or banana, and topped with plain natural yoghurt. In the summer I add fresh berries, peaches or nectarines.
It is super easy to make, the ingredients can be expensive initially but go a long way. Plus you will be saving money in the long run. There may appear to be a lot of ingredients, but you can always omit what you don’t have or can’t find. I am sharing with you my preferred combination. In addition, If you can’t find apple compote use apple puree from the baby food section in the supermarket.
The reason I love this recipe, and all my recipes, is that I know what goes into them. It’s all fresh ingredients and I never add sugar. This is mainly because my dad is diabetic and because you don’t need to add sugar to make things tasty. Apart from chocolate and Haribo of course which I am obsessed with…
Has this Granola made your mornings? I would love to hear if you liked it, leave me a comment or rate it and share your pictures on Instagram with #prettyvegetarian.
